Washington School, architectural signage

Updated: Mar 13

Salvaged signage from East St. Louis Ill. Demolished in 2000.

This piece of architectural signage cannot be scrambled into other words

due to the combination of letters cast together.

Washington School, was located at 2600 W. 20th Street in Granite City, Illinois. This school was constructed in 1901, with only four rooms, four more rooms were added in 1904 with other additions in 1909, making it a twelve-room school with ten teachers. Each addition cost about $15,000. I don't know when this picture was taken for this post card, but someone said that the School had 650 pupils very early in its new life as a school.
